A pretty good picture

These photos were taken in Cape Town, South Africa. During the photoshoot my eyes locked on an African boy. I asked if he was willing to have his picture taken by me. He was not wearing any shoes and he spoke English very poorly. The boys’ reaction however was humble and kind. He let Annika pose next to him and Marie put oil on his dry skin to make it shine. The boy seemed to have a natural talent for posing. He was not from Capetown. In fact he had moved to the city in hope to find a job and strive for a better future. The barefoot boy made each image mean more to me than just a pretty picture. That’s how a pretty picture turns into a pretty good picture.

Una muy buena imagen

Estas fotos fueron tomadas en Ciudad del Cabo, Sudáfrica. Durante la sesión de fotos mis ojos estaban fijos en un niño africano. Le pregunté si estaba dispuesto a dejarse tomar una foto por mí. No llevaba zapatos y hablaba Inglés muy mal. La reacción del chico sin embargo fue humilde y amable. Dejó que Annika posara junto a él y que Marie le pusiera aceite para hacer brillar su piel seca. El niño parecía tener un talento natural para posar. Él no era de Ciudad del Cabo, de hecho se había trasladado a la ciudad con la esperanza de encontrar un trabajo y luchar por un futuro mejor. El niño descalzo hizo que cada imagen significara más para mí que cualquier foto bonita. Así es como una imagen bonita se convierte en una muy buena imagen.
